There was a time when most of us decided to treat our headaches, backaches and other body pains and inflammation with medications, based on ibuprofen (Motrin, Nurofen, Advil & Nuprin). Ibuprofen is known to deal with most type of pain quickly but does not get to the root of the cause. In addition, these medications cause side-effects that include, but are not limited to, hypertension (high blood pressure), erectile dysfunction, diarrhea/nausea, gastrointestinal bleeding, leaky gut, increased risk of heart attack, potential kidney cancer formation and others.
Fortunately, Mother Nature was generous enough to provide us with an effective remedy – turmeric.
While ibuprofen and similar NSAIDs inhibit the Cyclooxygenase 2 or COX–2 enzyme, they’re known to cause further inflammation. Turmeric, on the other hand, acts mildly yet brings results.
Turmeric is packed with a very powerful compound, curcumin. Turmeric tea is in the category of the healthiest ancient and most effective natural remedy for pain and inflammation.
Precaution: Turmeric tea is not recommended if you are breast feeding or pregnant.
What turmeric does best is help heal aching joints and muscles while at the same time relaxing the body. Today’s recipe focuses on how to prepare your own turmeric tea at home. You can add other ingredients, such as ginger or cinnamon, to boost the effects.
Turmeric Pain-Relieving Tea
4 cups water
2 tablespoons grated fresh turmeric root, or 1 heaped teaspoon ground turmeric
Fresh lemon/honey or Stevia as sweetener to taste
Boil water, once it bubbles, throw in the turmeric and other ingredients. If you’re using fresh grated turmeric, boil for 15 – 20 minutes. Strain tea properly, then add lemon and sweeten with honey and/or Stevia to your taste. Enjoy! NOTE: DO NOT add sugar as sugar “ignites” inflammation.
