Not long ago a friend was experiencing debilitating overall pain, a temperature of over 100, exceptional fluid build-up with bags under the eyes and inability to urinate. He has had kidney and bladder issues in the past and had tests performed two days previous but these symptoms came on suddenly. Since a specialist couldn’t be seen for several days until results of lab tests, I had to come to the rescue with an ancient kitchen remedy taught me by my paternal grandmother who was an exceptional herbalist. She had only one kidney and when she experienced an infection, kidney pain or inability to properly and completely urinate, she’d make a natural herbal remedy tea and it brought her great relief – her Chinese medical doctor was always amazed at the results and supported her use of natural herbals. SO, digging in my memory for the time-tested recipe, I made a tea and had my friend drink 2 big mugs and continue to do so throughout that night and the next day until a quart was consumed. Within an hour of first dosage, the bags under his eyes were almost gone, the body aches were reduced to a low roar and the fever began to lower although it took another 24 hours to completely resolve.
In western medicine, we are so fast to run for a “quick-fix” drug. No, this natural tea did not resolve the underlying cause but it did bring my friend relief without causing any more toxicity in a body who was already fighting an infection and inflammation. The pain was so intense he hadn’t been able to sleep; within about 45 minutes after drinking the tea he was resting and asleep!
This tea is great for all-over body aches, reduced kidney function and fluid build-up, inflammation and to help the body fight infection like the flu. You should always seek medical advice but, as in this case, it would be a couple days before the specialist could see him and test results were pending so nature’s tea came to the immediate rescue...again.
Turmeric, and its active ingredient curcumin, has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong anti-oxidant. Of the 6000+ studies referencing curcumin, the most interesting finding is that when turmeric is compared to conventional medicine its benefits equal that of many pharmaceutical medications. In fact, several studies reported that using curcumin is more advantageous than certain prescription drugs. When I examined the most recent research, turmeric benefits go beyond that of even the following 10 drugs:
- Anti-inflammatory drugs
- Anti-depressants (Prozac)
- Anti-coagulants (Aspirin and blood thinners like coumadin)
- Pain killers
- Diabetes drugs (Metformin)
- Arthritis medications for pain and inflammation
- Inflammatory bowel disease drugs
Turmeric, the main spice in curry, is arguably the most powerful herb on the planet at fighting and potentially reversing disease. It has so many healing properties that currently there have been 6,235 peer-reviewed articles published proving the benefits of turmeric and one of its renowned healing compounds curcumin. This puts turmeric on top of the list as one of the most frequently mentioned medicinal herbs in all of science and the next most popular studied herbs include garlic, cinnamon, ginseng, ginger and milk thistle.
RECIPE – the amounts are approximate – what’s important is the ingredients.
6 cups water
3 heaping tsp. ground turmeric – centuries old remedy for pain and inflammation
3-4 heaping tsp. pure raw honey (or to taste) – contains natural healing/anti-inflammatory properties
2 Tablespoons organic raw un-salted butter – contains the “Wulzen Factor” *(see below for details)
1-2 large bunches of fresh parsley or ½ parsley and ½ cilantro – contains chlorophyll to clean out bacteria and help alkalize
The juice of 2 large lemons or 3 limes – helps alkaline the body to fight infection
1 Tablespoon grated raw ginger or 1 tsp. powdered ginger – superior anti-inflammatory
Other Helpful Ingredients:
Ground cinnamon or cinnamon sticks – great anti-inflammatory, good for circulation and helps regulate blood sugar)
Boil the water – when it begins to bubble throw in all the ingredients and boil 10-15 minutes. Drink as warm as comfortable. Best relief when consumed hot but can be chilled.
*Benefits of Organic Butter in this Tea – Wulzen Factor
- Butter is rich in important trace minerals, including manganese, chromium, zinc, copper and selenium (a powerful antioxidant). Butter provides more selenium per gram than wheat germ or herring and is also an excellent source of iodine.
- Butter contains what is known as the “Wulzen Factor” – a hormone-like substance that prevents arthritis and joint stiffness – ensuring the calcium in your body is put into your bones rather than your joints and other tissues. The “Wulzen Factor” is only present in raw butter and cream; it is destroyed by pasteurization. The “Wulzen Factor” also contains Vitamin K2 in grass-fed butter which protects against calcification of the joints as well as hardening of the arteries, cataract and calcification of the pineal gland. Studies show that calves fed pasteurized milk or skim milk quickly develop joint stiffness and pain.
The Way I See It…
Nature always has a remedy for us so in my practice I always use Food as Medicine before considering a pharmaceutical that may alleviate symptoms but serves to add to the body’s toxic overload, especially in the liver. In consideration of the benefits of ingredients mentioned above, a proprietary complex was commissioned by The Institute for Wholistic Rejuvenation and sold exclusively by Natural Rejuvenation Solutions at www.naturalrejuvenation.solutions. The formula is PainModulator, the label and ingredients are shown here View this photo
. At the first sign of pain I recommend 2 capsules every 3 hours until relief is achieved then reduce to 2 capsules every 4-6 hours as needed. Because all ingredients are natural, it is appropriate to take longer term if a chronic condition exists that would otherwise require regular use of pain or anti-inflammatory medications.
