Meet the “K” Family…
There are two kinds of natural vitamin K called K1 and K2. They are in the family of naturally-occurring, fat-soluble vitamins. In addition, there is a specific form of vitamin K2 known as MK4 – made when plant synthesize vitamin K1 and then the human body creates the MK4 form when it converts K1 to MK4. Vitamin MK4 accumulates within the tissues of the body, where it has health-enhancing benefits. Its accumulated in the spleen, liver, kidneys, brain, testes, brain, pancreas, lungs, and other tissues. It is involved in many biochemical pathways helping to promote healthy platelet and blood production, decreasing markers of inflammation, and promotes connective tissue (collagen) production – making it beneficial for all the tissues.
Multiple clinical trials using 45 mg of MK4 per day show that taking this amount daily may decrease fractures up to a whopping 87 – independent of the number of falls/injuries sustained. MK4 is also cited as a potential strategy for drug-induced bone loss and in clinical trials, 45 mg daily prevented bone loss and/or fractures caused by:

Handicapped Children and Fractures…
A serious problem of skeletal unloading exists in handicapped children. A case report was published of an institutionalized, bedridden, eight year-old girl with Arnold-Chiari deformity with low bone mineral density whose density increased once treated with MK4.
MK4 affects the proteins involved in the process of arterial calcifications, hardening of the arteries, which can cause heart attacks. The researchers in one study concluded, “These findings suggest that MK4 acts as an anti-calcification component in the vessel wall.” Another study cited that MK4 (NOT vitamin K) prevented calcium buildup in the arteries.
MK4 in the brain is involved in maintaining and promoting healthy nerves as part of the pathway for the production of sphingolipids – the lining around nerve cells that allow for healthy nerve impulses. Nerves going to and from the spinal cord to the muscles, bone, skin, and internal organs make up the peripheral nervous system. These nerves provide a common pathway for electrochemical communication to and from tissues throughout the body. Each nerve is covered externally by a dense sheath of connective tissue (collagen) – epineurium. MK4 promotes collagen production, and in the brain accumulates in the mid-brain, pons medulla, cerebellum, olfactory bulb, thalamus, hippocampus, and striatum – meaning MK4 may have powerful beneficial effects on all brain and nerve functions.
Remodeling Bone & Tissues…
Bone is living tissue, the remodeling process helps remove old or damaged tissue and build new tissue.
