Dear Gloria,

Thanks so much for this information. I had no idea that the nightshade family was so dangerous. I hesitate to give up tomatoes, as I really enjoy them, but that's all of this group that I indulge in at this time. Hmmm. May be worth trying out your suggestion and dropping them just to see how my body reacts.

Gooseberries are listed above as a nightshade. Only "cape gooseberries" (Physalis peruviana) are nightshades. The normal gooseberry (species of Ribes) is not a nightshade and should be safe to eat. Normal gooseberries might actually be good for reducing inflammation. Personally I'm sensitive to the alkaloids in nightshades, blueberries, olives and some melons. I have no problems with gooseberries.
